1. ANCESTRAL MATTER: THE GOLDEN AGE REBORN IN MINERAL COATINGS AND ATELIER ALCHEMY

The Legacy of Inma and Aroa | Gustavian & Gold & Legacy Paint

We are mother and daughter safeguarding a heritage that the modern industry tried to erase. In our artisan workshop in Spain, we recover the material truth of historicist furniture under the strict rigor of the great Spanish Golden Age masters, such as Francisco Pacheco and Antonio Palomino. What leaves our hands is living matter, not industrial products.

    I. Mineral Coatings in Powder Form: The Cloth-Pad Technique

Our mineral powder formulation is the very heart of our atelier. It is a noble material engineered to breathe and fuse with wood fibers through traditional, high-end cabinetmaking application methods:

    • Purity of Origin (Modern Heritage): Formulated around Morón Lime (UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage)—unique in the world for its extreme purity—which we dehydrate ourselves under the sun of Castile, and La Roda Natural Whiting, the noble sediment that provides a mineral light completely unattainable by modern chemical paints.

    • Cloth-Pad Application (Muñequilla): Our mineral coatings are worked entirely by hand using the traditional muñequilla pad method. This achieves an intimate fusion of the elements with the grain of the wood, resulting in a historical mineral satin finish and a warm, organic touch that reveals the true depth of our hand-ground pigments.

II. Artisan Encaustic and Waxes: The Beekeeper’s Ritual

We fiercely reject industrial waxes bleached with aggressive chemical agents like sulfuric acid. Our Encaustic formulas represent an absolute commitment to botanical purity and geological heritage:

    • Manual Purification: Virgin beeswax sourced directly from traditional beekeepers, painstakingly cleaned and strained by hand, batch after batch, on our workbench.

    • Atelier Emulsion: We patiently blend the purified wax with first-press extra virgin olive oil, selected artisan plant waxes, and noble tree resins. The result is a genuine silk-like shield that nourishes the vegetal fibers from within without ever sealing the wood's pores.

III. Historic Alchemy: Calcined Alum and Wood Ash

This is where fine cabinetry transforms into legend through the mastery of organic chemistry and noble minerals:

    • Calcined Alum (The White Gold): For centuries, mineral alum was the most coveted resource in Europe, nicknamed "White Gold." Monarchs and empires fought for its monopoly because it was the only mordant capable of fixing color permanently. In our atelier, we calcine this mineral in our own artisan wood-burning stove, recovering the historic fixative that keeps the wood alive while rendering the color eternal.

    • 7-Day Decanted Ash: We collect the raw remnants from our wood stove and decant them in pure water for a full week, patiently changing the water every single day to eliminate harsh potash. The result is a magnificent shadow pigment and a noble micro-abrasive that bestows an authentic, chemical-free patina of time upon the furniture.

IV. Numbered Series and Sensory Experience

Our Legacy Paint collections are strictly limited editions (ranging from 15 to 60 units), entirely prepared by hand and individually numbered:

    • Natural Moisture Control: We insert a small, traditional rice sachet into every single container to guarantee that your mineral powder coating arrives at your studio in immaculate preservation conditions.

    • Atelier Scent: We include raw wax flakes, naturally scented with pure essential oils, ensuring that opening each box becomes an exclusive sensory ritual that instantly connects you to the ancient craft.
