MATTER AND CRAFT: THE ORIGIN OF LEGACY PAINT

We are Inma and Aroa, mother and daughter, bound by a shared passion for the origin and history of furniture. We work side by side in a modest workshop in Spain, where every day we find a way to create a new colour, a new texture, and a new way of communing with matter to achieve something truly unique. Legacy Paint is not merely a brand; it is an answer, born from a profound respect for craftsmanship, to the soullessness of industrial finishes and paints. We sought to recover the truth of the furniture—the texture, colour, and depth that every piece possessed before everything became hurried and artificial.

Painting as in times past: Our journey began by researching the numerous treatises and renowned authors of the Spanish Golden Age. We sought to understand how the great masters worked in the studios of the era, and how the artist—alongside skilled cabinetmakers and their trained eye—moulded and understood their materials. We were not just looking for colours; we wanted living materials, such as mineral charges. For this reason, we also recovered the muñequilla technique and the direct handling of pure pigment. We wanted—and needed—the touch of a piece of furniture to reveal a breathing surface with a mineral feel characteristic of natural pigments, rather than a chemical or "plastic-effect" finish.

Our Mineral Library: At our workbench, we are not governed by fleeting fashions, but by the materials of our land:

  • Blanco de España de La Roda: We use it for that mineral light that no factory can ever replicate.

  • Cal de Morón: True lime (UNESCO World Heritage). We dehydrate it ourselves in the workshop and bind it with pure olive oil from the almazara.

  • Pigments and Treatises: We study masters such as Pacheco to understand ancient chemistry, from the walls of the Alhambra to Castilian sobriety. For paint—especially mineral distemper—must not only be studied; it must be understood.

What leaves our hands (Numbered Series): Here, there is no mass stock or infinite catalogues. What you see is what we are creating at this very moment. We grind and prepare every pigment by hand using a mortar, ensuring the grain retains its natural strength.

To ensure each creation reaches your workshop in perfect condition, we include a nod to our customs and folk traditions: we place a small sachet of rice in every container to control humidity, and natural wax flakes to preserve freshness. We produce very small batches, from 15 to 60 units, all of them numbered. Once they are gone, we move on to our next investigation.

This is our shared knowledge, from our hands to yours, so that every piece of furniture may become a legacy worth preserving for generations to come.
