Matter & Craft: The Wisdom of our Atelier
Inma & Aroa | Two Generations Bound by the Archeology of Matter
We are a mother and daughter duo working side-by-side in a humble atelier in Castilla-La Mancha, Spain—a land of giants and ancient wisdom where time is measured in natural cycles. Our story is a relentless pursuit of the material truth within heritage cabinetry. Legacy Paint is not a commercial brand; it is our vital response to the artificial world—a way of dialoguing with wood so it may reclaim the luminosity and depth that only noble, ancestral materials can bestow.
The Ritual of Alchemy: Fire, Sun, and Water
On our workbench, trends are irrelevant. We are guided by the elements and the strict rigor of the 18th-century Spanish Golden Age treaties (Pacheco, Palomino). For us, "painting as they did before" means preparing every gram of matter with our own hands:
-
The White Gold of our Wood-Burning Stove: We calcine raw Mineral Alum in our own artisanal wood-burning stove. We reclaim this historical mordant—the coveted "White Gold"—to fix pigments organically, allowing the wood to breathe beneath the color.
-
Sun-Cured Cal de Morón (UNESCO): We work with the world’s purest lime. We source this legendary Cal de Morón as a raw hydrate and perform the artisanal sun-dehydration process ourselves under the intense sun of Castilla-La Mancha, later grinding it in stone mortars to ensure its mineral light remains faithful to that of historical palaces.
-
7-Day Purified Ash: We reject chemical abrasives. We decant our own natural ash for seven full days, patiently changing the water every morning. The result is a noble micro-abrasive and a pH-neutral mineral shadow pigment that grants furniture an authentic patina of time.
Our Mineral Library: Provenance and Spanish Soul
Our materials speak of our land and an ancient chemistry that we deeply revere:
-
Blanco de España from La Roda: A natural calcium carbonate from the heart of Spain that provides a mineral vibration and "inner light" impossible to replicate in an industrial factory.
-
Aceite de Oliva (Our Liquid "Spanish Gold"): The perfect binder for our emulsions and Encausto Artesano. We use pure, cold-pressed Aceite de Oliva from local mills to nourish the wood’s organic fibers without sealing the grain.
-
Noble Pigments: Hand-ground in stone mortars to preserve the structural strength and chromatic "soul" of the mineral grain.
The Art of Muñequilla: Texture vs. Plastic
We reclaimed the Muñequilla (Hand-Padding) technique because we believe in the necessity of touch. Mineral distemper is not merely applied; it is fused with the furniture. We seek that warm, mineral tactility, fleeing from the "plastic effect" of industrial coatings. We want you to feel the matter breathing when you touch one of our pieces.
A Legacy of Numbered Editions
In our atelier, mass production does not exist. What you see is what we are creating at this very moment: very small batches (15 to 60 units), each individually numbered.
To ensure our matter arrives in peak condition, we follow our local traditions: we include a small pouch of rice for natural humidity control and artisanal wax sequins, scented with essential oils, to preserve the freshness and soul of the product.
This is our shared wisdom, from our hands to yours, ensuring that every piece of furniture becomes a legacy worth preserving for generations.
